My Research

I am interested in the idea of time-machine computing. Not the kind from novels or film, but rather one that could be used on a daily basis to make our lives easier. In this day and age where most everything we do is with some electronic gadget, it is becoming overwhelming to keep track of things. We are not systematic organizers by default, or at least most people are not, so the increasingly larger amount of "stuff" we encounter while we use our phones, our browsers or our laptops has to give.

If we knew what we are going to have to remember, then we wouldn't forget it so easily, right? Well, people are good at remembering by association and using the cues in the environment to reconstruct the past. But computers don't support this, they only record your last action and then ask you to put a label to it. My research is about studying new ways to interact with your personal computing past, using cues from episodic memory to browse, search, and relive what you did, as well as to find things that you know you saw, but forgot to tag. See my research page for more.
